GBFDC has produced Official First Day Covers since October 1995, available exclusively to members of the Association on issue. At the request of members, a new series of GBFDC Official covers was introduced in 2000. It is proving extremely popular, with most sold out at issue.

Adrian Bradbury in his widely used catalogue ‘Collecting British First Day Covers’ defines Official Covers as covers produced by private organisations or cover producers, who at the same time sponsor a special handstamp to accompany their cover. In other words, the cover producer and the special handstamp sponsor are the same for a particular first day cover.
