By “Official” covers, we mean:

First Day Cover | Scouts 2007

First Day Cover | Scouts 2007

“covers produced by private organisations or cover producers, who at the same time sponsor a special handstamp to accompany their cover.”

In other words, when the cover producer and the special handstamp sponsor are the same for a particular first day cover. This definition is associated with Adrian Bradbury and can be found in his widely used catalogue “Collecting British First Day Covers”.

GBFDC began producing Official covers in October 1995, since which time they have been available exclusively to members of the Association on issue.

At the request of members, a new series of GBFDC Official covers was introduced in 2000. It is proving extremely popular, with most sold out at issue.
